GALLE: Australia dominated day two of the second test against Sri Lanka, inching closer to a whitewash. It was all thanks to Steven Smith and Alex Carey, as they dominated with the bat.
Sri Lanka managed to make another 28 runs on day 2 before their last wicket fell. It was Matthew Kuhnemann, taking his third wicket of the innings. He dismissed Lahiru Kumara, who was caught out at second slip by Beau Webster, leaving Kusal Mendis stranded for 85 runs.
Sri Lanka had put up a total of 257 runs. And by the end of the day, Australia had eclipsed it.
Australia had a rough start, losing both Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne before they made 40 runs. Head was the first to go, as he was caught out at slip on a delivery from Nishan Peiris in the 7th over. He only made 21 runs, but Labuschagne did even worse, only scoring four before he was dismissed for an lbw on a delivery from Jayasuriya.

Usman Khawaja then brought some stability to the innings, scoring 36 runs off the 57 deliveries he faced. However, he too was dismissed in the 25th over, as Peiris earned his second wicket with an lbw. Australia used a review to no avail.
By this point, skipper Steven Smith had already begun work on what would turn into an incredible innings, scoring 27 of the 54 run partnership he made with Khawaja. After Khawaja left the field, Alex Carey joined Smith, and together, they have made the largest partnership of the game, adding an outstanding 239 runs to Australia’s total thus far.
Smith has made 120 runs off the 239 balls he has faced, hitting nine fours and one six along the way. Carey has been even more impressive, scoring 139 runs off the 156 deliveries he has faced, hitting 13 fours and two sixes in the process.
Australia currently stand at 330 for 3 after 80 overs. They lead by 73 runs.
