Saim Ayub injury update, possible return date

Ayub

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) gave an update regarding the condition of Saim Ayub and his availability for future series.

One of Pakistan’s best up-and-coming batters suffered a right ankle fracture in the second test of the series against South Africa in early January. It was reported days after the injury that Ayub was being transported to London for specialist treatment.

The latest updates from the PCB reveals that the 22 year old is continuing his rehabilitation in England and is progressing well. However, he has been ruled out for 10 weeks from the date of injury, after medical assessments, MRI scans, and X-rays were conducted. It has been five weeks since Ayub suffered the injury on January 3, meaning he will need at least another five weeks of rehabilitation before he makes his return.

Based on this schedule, Ayub may be available for the upcoming tour of New Zealand which begins on March 16 and consists of five T20Is, as well as three ODIs. However, Ayub’s participation will depend on if he passes all fitness tests and medical requirements. His last T20I performance came in December of 2024, when he scored an unbeaten 98 runs against South Africa in the second game of the series. His last ODI performance came in the final match of the 50 over series against South Africa, in which his 101 runs helped Pakistan complete their whitewash.

Following the New Zealand tour, the HBL Pakistan Super League will begin. Ayub was retained by the Peshawar Zalmi as part of the Platinum category. Ayub has played a total of 30 matches in the PSL. His highest score is 88, which he made last season against the Lahore Qalandars.
