Football: Phil Foden, Cole Palmer win PFA awards

MANCHESTER: Manchester City’s Phil Foden was awarded the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year for the 2023-24 season on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old footballer scored 27 goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions. He contributed significantly to Manchester City’s fourth consecutive Premier League title and their Football Association Challenge Cup (FA Cup) final appearance.

Foden was recognised ahead of his Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland, as well as Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard, and Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.
In addition to this award, Foden also won the Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Men’s Footballer of the Year.
Cole Palmer named PFA Young Player of the Year
Similarly, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer was named PFA Young Player of the Year.
The 22-year-old football had a standout debut season with Chelsea. Palmer scored 27 goals and registering 15 assists in 48 matches.
Despite Chelsea’s difficult season, Palmer’s performances were a highlight.
Palmer was selected over other nominees, including Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo, Michael Olise, João Pedro, and Bukayo Saka.
The award marks a significant milestone in his early career.

Both Phil Foden and Cole Palmer played key roles for England in Euro 2024. Palmer scored in the final as England lost to Spain.
The PFA awards recognized their exceptional performances throughout the season.
