LAHORE: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Sanjog Gupta as its new Chief Executive Officer, replacing Geoff Allardice, who stepped down after a tenure focused on expanding cricket’s global presence.
Gupta will officially take charge today (Monday), becoming the ICC’s seventh CEO, according to the council’s press release.
Currently serving as CEO, Sports & Live Experiences at JioStar, Sanjog Gupta brings over 20 years of diverse experience in sports management, strategy, and commercial development.
ICC Chairman Jay Shah expressed confidence in Gupta’s appointment, stating, “Sanjog’s deep understanding of sports strategy and commercialisation will prove vital for the ICC’s future.”
The selection followed a global recruitment drive launched in March, which attracted more than 2,500 applicants from 25 countries. The shortlisted candidates included executives from international sports bodies and senior professionals from various industries.
After an extensive evaluation by the ICC’s HR and Remuneration Committee, a shortlist of 12 was reviewed by a Nominations Committee comprising ICC Deputy Chair Imran Khwaja, ECB Chair Richard Thompson, SLC President Shammi Silva, and BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia. Sanjog Gupta was unanimously recommended by the panel and his appointment was later ratified by the full ICC Board.
