The British cyclist postponed his planned retirement to pursue a record-breaking 35th career tour stage win this season. He achieved the milestone with a victory on stage five into Saint-Vulbas.

Traditionally concluding with a sprint on the Champs-Élysées in Paris, this year’s Tour ended with a time trial along the Côte d’Azur due to preparations for the Paris Olympics.

Reflecting on his journey, Mark Cavendish expressed relief and satisfaction after overcoming challenges earlier in the Tour. He navigated the treacherous Alpine stages, ensuring he met the time cut and completed his final Tour de France.

Recognised as one of cycling’s most prolific sprinters, Cavendish has amassed an impressive record with 55 stage wins in Grand Tours and a total of 165 professional victories. His achievements also include winning the 2011 world title and numerous track world championships.
