PCB accepts Babar Azam’s resignation

Azam

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) accepted the resignation of white ball cricket team captain Babar Azam on Wednesday.

The PBC said that Azam’s decisions reflects his desire to focus on batting, and they will continue supporting him as they have done before.

“I will be able to play a more effective role by focusing on batting,” Azam said, adding that he always tries to give his best.

The board believes that Azam still has a lot to contribute to Pakistani cricket.

Mohammad Rizwan likely to become captain

The selection committee will begin the process of developing the future of the ODI and T20I teams’ future, which begins with selecting new captains. The committee is expected to give their recommendations soon.

Azam had announced on Tuesday that he was stepping away from the side, with sources claiming that head coach Gary Kirsten wanted the batsman to focus on One Day International and advised for a new T20 captain.

The batsman disagreed with Kirsten’s idea to focus on only one team, feeling sidelined from decision making, leading to his resignation from both positions.

Sources have stated that the PCB is considering Pakistani wicket keeper Mohammad Rizwan for the ODI captaincy and Mohammad Haris for the T20I Captaincy.
