DURBAN: India lead the 4 match T20I series against South Africa, after beating the Proteas by 61 runs on Friday, behind an incredible innings from Sanju Samson.
INDIA’S INNINGS
Despite opener Abhishek Sharma being dismissed in the fourth over, thanks to a running catch by South Africa skipper Aiden Markram, India’s Sanju Samson held strong.
Samson continued his hot streak, scoring an incredible century in just 50 deliveries, which was the second of his career with the first coming just a month prior in his last outing against Bangladesh. He hit seven fours and blasted 10 sixes on his way to scoring 107 runs. He was eventually dismissed in the 16th over after he hit a delivery from Nqabayomzi Peter to deep mid-wicket, where Tristan Stubbs took the catch.
The Indian wicket keeper produced the highest score of India’s innings, with the only other significant scores coming from Tilak Varma, who scored 33 runs off 18 deliveries, and India skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 21 runs off 17 deliveries.

Varma was dismissed on a delivery from Keshav Maharaj that he popped up before it came down in Marco Jansen’s hands. Yadav was dismissed on a delivery from Patrick Kruger, which he hit to Andile Simelane who took the catch.
India made 202 runs in their 20 overs, losing eight wickets on the way.
SOUTH AFRICA’S INNINGS
The Proteas got off to a rough start, losing three wickets in the first six overs. The first dismissal came from Arshdeep Singh, who sent off Markram in the very first over, on a delivery that found the edge of the South Africa skipper’s bat on its way to Samson. Markram made his way back up to the pavilion after hitting two fours from the four deliveries he faced.
Tristan Stubbs fell next in the fourth over on a delivery from Avesh Khan. Stubbs made 11 runs from 11 deliveries before he hit the ball straight to India’s skipper.
Ryan Rickelton fell not long after in the sixth over. It was Varun Chakravarthy this time, who dismissed Rickelton with the second delivery he bowled in the match. The South Africa opener hit the ball towards long on, where Varma had settled to take the catch.
Varun would take two more wickets in the 12th over. The first would dismiss Heinrich Klaasen, who scored the highest total for South Africa with 25 runs off 22 deliveries. Klaasen hit the delivery towards long on, where Axar Patel took the catch. David Miller fell a couple balls later, with Avesh Khan taking the catch this time as the South Africa batter hit it towards deep square leg.

The Indian spinners’ third wicket would come on the last ball of the 15th over. Marco Jansen fell after he didn’t get a good connection on the delivery from Bishnoi. Pandya did the rest by taking the catch.
Australia were all out for 141 in the 18th over. Varun and Bishnoi were India’s two highest wicket takers, as they dismissed three batters each. Avesh took two wickets, while Singh took one.
