LAHORE: The sports adviser for the caretaker Punjab government Wahab Riaz made a significant announcement today revealing a cash prize of PKR 3 million to honour the outstanding achievement of javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem.
The decision follows the directives issued by Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi to recognise Arshad’s remarkable feat of securing a silver medal at the Budapest event.
In a statement, Wahab Riaz expressed his unwavering commitment to acknowledging the dedication and hard work of all players in the province, ensuring that their contributions do not go unnoticed.
“The provincial government of Punjab is resolutely dedicated to supporting every athlete who dedicates their heart and soul to representing our nation,” added the former cricketer.

Meanwhile, in addition to the cash prize announcement, Riaz revealed plans for the impending launch of the Punjab Endowment Fund. This initiative is set to play a pivotal role in further strengthening the sports sector within the province, offering promising prospects for athletes.
“The future of sports and athletes in Punjab is bright. Under the guidance of the Chief Minister, we are actively reinforcing our commitment to nurturing our sporting talent,” Riaz added.
Arshad Nadeem, a 25-year-old athlete hailing from Mian Channu, achieved a historic milestone last month by clinching a silver medal at the World Athletics Championship 2023 in Hungary. His remarkable throw of 87.82 metres on the third attempt placed him in second position, trailing only behind Indian athlete Neeraj Chopra. This exceptional achievement has earned him the admiration and support of not only the Punjab government but also sports enthusiasts nationwide.
