iOS 18 will no longer pause audio playback during video recording

iOS 18 video recording with audio

WEB DESK: In the upcoming iOS 18, Apple introduces a new feature in the Camera app’s Settings menu that allows users to manage audio playback during video recording.

Previously, when switching to Video mode, any audio playing on the iPhone—such as music or podcasts—would automatically pause.

This was intended to prevent background sounds from being captured in the video. However, this feature could be inconvenient if you wanted to include a soundtrack with your video.

To bypass this limitation, users could use the QuickTake feature from iOS 13, which permits audio to continue during video recording but at a reduced quality compared to standard Video mode.

With iOS 18, Apple addresses this issue with a new option called “Allow Audio Playback.” This toggle allows audio playback to continue while recording video, although the audio will be recorded in mono when played through the iPhone’s speakers.

According to Apple, “Audio playback will not pause automatically when recording video.”

The update, slated for release in mid-September, promises more than just this audio feature. iOS 18 will also bring enhanced customisation options, generative AI capabilities, improved Siri functionality, and more.
