Windows 11: Microsoft introduces user-friendly homepage

Windows 11

WEB DESK: Microsoft is at the verge of launching a fresh settings homepage in Windows 11.

According to media reports, the tech giant has integrated an updated version into the Beta Channel of Windows Insiders. The enhanced homepage features “interactive cards” that facilitate swift access to a range of settings, including device personalisation, Bluetooth controls, account recovery, and more.

Moreover, the homepage will also suggest settings based on how an individual uses computer, making it easier to quickly access commonly used options such as display, sound and search preferences.

Meanwhile, dedicated section displays user’s OneDrive cloud storage allocation, along with distinct cards showcasing the Microsoft 365 and Xbox subscription statuses.

However, the Microsoft indicates that the initial menu will house up to seven cards, with plans to introduce more in the future. This concept was initially trialed in June. The seven cards include,

Recommended Settings— This card changes based on how one uses computer and presents useful settings. This would also help users manage the settings easily and also saves time.

Cloud Storage— This would display the space occupied by the user’s data in the online storage.

Account Recovery— This ensures account safety. It also features the option to add extra information to avoid the account getting locked in case of password forgetting etc.

Personalisation— This card is responsible for the computer’s look. Users would be able to update background and change colours.

Microsoft 365— This card includes details regarding your subscription. It would also enable users to go through the settings without visiting the website.

Xbox— Just like the Microsoft 365 card, it deals with the Xbox subscription and its settings.

Bluetooth Devices— This card allows users to handle Bluetooth gadgets. Users would be able to connect to Bluetooth devices easily.

Nonetheless, another intriguing prospect on the horizon is the prospective release of the Windows Backup app. Unveiled in May, this app streamlines the process of backing up your current PC in anticipation of adopting a new one.

In addition to automatically transferring the existing preferences to the new device, it will also replicate any pinned apps from the desktop, Start menu, and taskbar. Although the app won’t install these apps on the new PC outright, it will offer convenient shortcuts to either the Microsoft Store or the developer’s website for reinstallation purposes.

Last but the least, Microsoft is releasing a small update for its Dynamic Lighting feature. Once it is available to everyone, users will be able to use the tool to match their computer’s accent colour with the accessories and parts. They can also choose any color they want for their devices.

All of these features come with Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22631.2262, which is rolling out to the Beta Channel now.
