Campaign Launched to Transform Karachi’s Marginalized Slum Communities

KWSSP

KARACHI: The Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP) successfully organized a dynamic community session in Essa Nagri as part of its Behavior Change Campaign.

The session aimed to raise awareness among residents about water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices, encouraging them to take essential steps toward improving their environment.

The session saw enthusiastic participation from the residents of Essa Nagri, particularly women and children, who recognized the importance of the campaign’s goals.

A key highlight of the event was an engaging role-play performance presented in a light-hearted manner. Kashif Siddiqui and Saina Ali, portraying the characters of a “Prince and Princess,” delivered essential hygiene messages in an entertaining and captivating way. The audience not only appreciated the performance but also gained valuable insights into adopting hygiene principles in their daily lives.

Throughout the session, participants were invited to share their thoughts and suggestions. Many expressed concerns about the challenges they face with water supply and sanitation in their area, offering possible solutions to these issues. The residents emphasized the need to improve water and sanitation systems as a crucial step toward leading a healthier life.

The program also featured patriotic songs, which further energized the attendees. Children performed national songs, creating a celebratory atmosphere and highlighting feelings of love and unity for the country. The efforts and enthusiasm of the children were widely praised by the audience, and the songs reinforced the message of national solidarity.

KWSSIP, under its Katchi Abadis initiative, is actively working to improve water and sewage systems in underserved areas. This session was part of these ongoing efforts. The project’s primary objective is to empower the residents of Karachi’s informal settlements by providing them with access to improved water and sanitation systems.

The Behavior Change Campaign under KWSSIP seeks to encourage residents to adopt healthier hygiene and sanitation practices, ultimately fostering positive changes in their communities. This community session was a significant step toward raising awareness in marginalized areas, motivating residents to take ownership of solutions for water, sanitation, and public health issues.
