Diplomatic efforts to halt the Israel-Hamas conflict and secure a deal to return hostages held in Gaza have intensified in recent days. Talks mediated by the US, Egypt and Qatar are set to continue this week in Cairo, following a two-day meeting in Doha last week.

Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz visited with locals in Moon Township, Aliquippa, and Coraopolis, after holding a rally in Pittsburgh.

The Pennsylvania tour takes place with just 79 days left until the election.

Opinion polls have shown Harris bringing fresh energy to the campaign and closing the gap with former President Trump both nationally and in many of the eight highly competitive states including Pennsylvania that will play a decisive role in picking Democratic President Joe Biden’s successor.

Harris, who is Black and has Asian heritage, will be the first woman president if she wins in November.

Trump on Saturday (August 17) said he believed she would be easier to beat than Biden, 81, who dropped out last month under pressure from his own party after a disastrous debate against Trump.
