OGDCL notifies major gas condensate reserves discovery in Sanghar

OGDCL gas discovery Balochistan

KARACHI: Pakistan’s leading exploration and production company, Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), has announced a significant discovery of gas condensate reserves at its Baloch-2 well in the Sanghar district of Sindh.

This marks a major achievement in the Sinjhoro block, with the discovery being made in the Sembar Formation.

The news was shared in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday. The discovery was made by the joint venture operating in the Sinjhoro block, which includes OGDCL as the operator with a 76 per cent working interest, along with Orient Petroleum holding 19 per cent and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holding 5 per cent.

The Baloch-2 well was spudded on 24th February 2024 and drilled to a depth of 3,920 metres true vertical depth (TVD) in the Sembar Formation. The drilling was part of OGDCL’s exploratory efforts, supported by in-house evaluation and technical assistance from its joint venture partners.

According to OGDCL’s notice, wireline log interpretations and a drill stem test-3 conducted in the Sembar Formation indicated a production potential of 6.8 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas and 388 barrels of condensate per day (bcpd) through a 32/64” choke at a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 2,180 pounds per square inch (psi).

OGDCL highlighted that the Sembar Formation is renowned for its promising hydrocarbon potential and is extensively spread across the Middle and Lower Indus basin of Pakistan.

According to Business Recorder, the company stated that this discovery not only underscores the untapped potential of the Sembar Formation but also opens up new opportunities for further exploration and development within the block.
