The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and SAFCO Venture Holdings Limited have joined forces to launch Pakistan’s first sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility, marking a significant advancement in the country’s clean energy landscape, reported nukta.com

With an $86.2 million investment, the project will establish a cutting-edge facility in Sheikhupura capable of producing 145,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel annually using waste-based feedstock.

The innovative facility is projected to dramatically reduce carbon emissions by up to 85%, presenting a critical breakthrough for Pakistan’s climate change mitigation efforts. ADB officials highlighted the importance of this project, noting the aviation sector’s limited decarbonization options. Beyond environmental benefits, the initiative is expected to stimulate economic growth by creating new jobs and developing a sustainable aviation fuel industry within Pakistan.

This pioneering project demonstrates the country’s commitment to transitioning towards a low-carbon economy and represents a significant step in addressing global climate challenges through innovative, sustainable technology.
