FACT CHECK: Chaudhary, Langrial have not resigned from their positions


Claim: Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) leaders Awn Chaudhry and Nauman Langrial Thursday resigned from their positions as the Prime Minister’s special aides in line with the party’s commitment.

Fact: Awn Chaudhry and Nauman Langrial did not resign as special assistants to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Situation: Pakistani media outlets carried news early on July 14 that IPP leaders Awn Chaudhry and Nauman Langrial had resigned from the cabinet positions and that the action was in line with the aspirations of the newly established party.

However, sources in the Prime Minister house as well as members of the cabinet confirmed to HUM News Digital that the news was not correct. “Both IPP members are still part of the cabinet, and have not resigned from the advisory roles to the prime minister,” a senior cabinet member said.

Leaders within IPP also rebuked the claims.

Awn Chaudhry and Nauman Langrial continue to serve as advisers to PM.
