DISCOs employees found involved in billions of rupees embezzlement

ISLAMABAD: A major scandal involving corruption and embezzlement, amounting to billions of rupees, has been uncovered among employees of electricity distribution companies.
According to the Hum Investigation Team (HIT), Rs1.58 billion in corruption has been identified in the funds of five distribution companies over the past year. More than 4,000 employees from these companies have been implicated in various forms of theft, fraud, and embezzlement.
The investigation has revealed the theft of government vehicles and equipment worth Rs640 million rupees, as well as the misappropriation of electrical equipment and materials valued at over Rs360 million.
The special audit report on the distribution companies reveals that Hyderabad Electric Supply Company experienced fraud and corruption amounting to Rs1.5 billion, while Gujranwala Electric Supply Company saw Rs35 million and NTDC reported Rs3.6 million in corruption.

In one year, Rs460 million crore worth of theft has been detected in 1,000 cases within the distribution companies. Theft amounting to Rs130 million was reported in Quetta Electric Supply Company and 30 million rupees each in Gujranwala and Faisalabad.
