Babar Azam shatters records, surpasses Virat Kohli in T20 cricket


DUBLIN: Babar Azam surpassed Virat Kohli record for the most fifty-plus scores in T20 international cricket during the concluding match against Ireland on Tuesday.

The Pakistani men’s cricket team is currently on tour of Ireland for three-game T20I series. During the third match of the series, Babar Azam broke the Indian player’s previously-held record.

The captain amassed 75 runs from 45 run while guiding Pakistan to a six-wicket victory against Ireland. Babar Azam now possesses 39 fifty-plus scores in 110 innings, exceeding Virat Kohli tally of 38 in 109 innings. The latest win by the Pakistani captain showcases Babar’s exceptional consistency and prowess as a top-order batsman in T20 format.

Babar reached his 35th half-century in the very first match against Ireland during the current series. By the last match of the Irish tour, the Pakistani captain had scored his 39th fifty-plus scores.

The Pakistani captain is also close to becoming the first Pakistani cricketer to surpass the 4,000-run mark in T20I cricket, with 3955 runs.

Pakistan won the three-match T20I series against Ireland 2-1 and is now scheduled to play a four-match T20I series against England starting from May 22.
