FIA reports daily increase in online fraud cases


Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) encountered another legal setback as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) initiated a crackdown on the party’s organised social media accounts.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) reported a substantial increase in online fraud cases, with 31 new inquiries being registered daily.

The surge in cybercrime activity has led to a dramatic escalation in reported fraud incidents.

According to official statistics, the FIA registered a total of 13,500 online fraud inquiries over the past year and a half. The inquiries reveal a total amount involved in fraud cases that exceeded Rs20 billion.

In response to the increasing number of fraud cases, authorities have made notable progress. Almost 1,000 people have been arrested in connection with online fraud.

More than 19 FIRs (First Information Reports) have also been filed by cybercrime officials, and 160 inquiries have been launched specifically targeting online lending applications.

The crackdown on fraudulent activities has also led to the arrest of 62 employees from fraudulent apps.

The FIA reportedly achieved significant financial recoveries in these cases. Over the last 18 months, authorities have successfully recovered Rs1 billion from the accused.
