KARACHI: The Sindh Cabinet on Thursday approved the introduction of gold, silver, and platinum number plates for vehicles.

Minister for Excise and Taxation Sharjeel Memon presented a proposal before the Cabinet to introduce premium number plates for vehicles.

Currently, the Excise and Taxation Department offers three types of number plates; commercial, non-commercial, and motorcycle.

Features of gold, platinum and silver number plates:

Premium number plates offer unique features, including personalised ownership that can be inherited, transferability to another vehicle, CNIC-based registration applicable to any private vehicle, reusability across different vehicles, customisable color shades for platinum numbers (except prescribed colours), and transferability to another CNIC for a specified fee.

These premium plates are categorised into Platinum, Gold, and Silver. Platinum plates allow a maximum of three characters and are priced at a base rate of Rs2 million. Gold plates accommodate up to five characters and are priced at Rs1 million, while Silver plates, with a maximum of seven characters, have a base price of Rs50,000.
