Islamabad traffic plan: Red Zone sealed, alternate routes issued

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad authorities have announced a comprehensive traffic advisory, placing the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone under complete lockdown for all kinds of traffic.

The Expressway from Korral to Zero Point will remain fully closed, while traffic movement on Srinagar Highway may be halted intermittently.

Entry of heavy traffic into the capital has been strictly banned from all routes, with transporters advised to avoid heading toward Islamabad during this period.

Residents have been provided with alternate routes to ease movement across the city.

Commuters from G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 sectors heading to Rawalpindi are advised to use Margalla Road and 9th Avenue. Traffic from Faisal Avenue toward Zero Point will be diverted to 9th Avenue.

In case of closure from Zero Point to Korral Chowk, motorists can take Srinagar Highway to 9th Avenue, then use Stadium Road to reach Murree Road via Chandni Chowk and continue through Rawal Road to Korral.

If Club Road is closed from Park Road, traffic will be redirected toward Tramri Chowk.

People travelling between Bhara Kahu and Rawalpindi should use Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road. Meanwhile, commuters between Rawalpindi Saddar and Islamabad can use Colonel Sher Khan Road via Fakir Aipi Road or 9th Avenue.

For heavy vehicles, those traveling from Peshawar to Lahore via GT Road should divert at Taxila to the Motorway, then proceed through Chakri Interchange and Chak Beli Road before rejoining GT Road at Rawat.

Similarly, traffic from Lahore to Peshawar should follow the reverse route via Rawat, Chak Beli Road, and Chakri Interchange toward the Motorway and Taxila.
