Microsoft considered Cursor purchase prior to SpaceX’s $60bln move

CALIFORNIA: Cursor AI, an artificial intelligence coding startup co-founded by Pakistani entrepreneur Sualeh Asif, has reportedly been acquired by SpaceX in a $60 billion deal.

As part of the growing push in artificial intelligence services, the acquisition marks a significant development in the AI industry. Reports also noted that Microsoft had previously shown interest in acquiring Cursor AI, but the deal did not materialize due to reportedly unresolved terms and conditions.

The transaction highlights a broader shift in the AI landscape, according to industry observers.

Cursor AI reached a valuation of $29.3 billion in November 2025 after raising $2.3 billion in a funding round co-led by major venture capital firms Accel and Coatue. The company is also said to have surpassed $1 billion in annualised revenue, making it one of the fastest-growing AI startups in the sector.

Sualeh Asif, originally from Karachi, Pakistan, represented the country in international Mathematics Olympiads between 2016 and 2018. He later studied at MIT, where he co-founded an AI-powered search engine company during his early entrepreneurial journey.

The young founder has gained increasing recognition in global tech circles, including appearing on the Forbes Billionaires list, further spotlighting Pakistan’s presence in the global AI startup ecosystem.
