WEB DESK: The Pakistan Navy, in coordination with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA), has rescued 20 Pakistani crew members from a cargo dhow east of Ormara, which was experiencing flooding, the military’s media wing said on Thursday.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the vessel was experiencing flooding when a distress call was received at the Joint Maritime Information Coordination Centre.
Response to distress call
Upon receipt of the call, PNS Hunain and aerial assets were diverted to the location to carry out the operation.
The ISPR stated that the 20 crew members were recovered from the vessel by the rescue teams. Following the rescue, the individuals were shifted to a location where medical attention is being provided.
Commitment to maritime safety
The military’s media wing added that the operation relates to the commitment of the Pakistan Navy and the PMSA to the safety of life at sea, and their readiness to respond to emergencies in the waters of the region.
Earlier in April, the Pakistan Navy rescued 18 crew members of a merchant vessel in the North Arabian Sea after a distress call.
The crew included citizens of China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia, with that operation coordinated through the PMSA’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.
