PM Shehbaz holds telephone call with president of Iran

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation on Sunday with the Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian, as Iran’s high-level delegation is expected to arrive this week in Pakistan.

During their conversation, PM Shehbaz and president Pezeshkian discussed in detail the current regional situation.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office in the evening today, the 45-minute call went fruitful, with both the leaders conversing cordially and friendly.

Shehbaz thanked the president for sending Iranian leaders led by Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for Islamabad Talks conducted on April 11-12.

The PM also briefed the Iranian President on his recent meetings with various world leaders, including those from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkiye.

He said these engagements had helped build consensus in favour of dialogue and diplomacy for sustainable peace in the region.

During the call, the president appreciated the constructive discussions held during Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to Tehran with the Iranian leadership.

The premier reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to continue sincere and serious efforts, in collaboration with friendly countries, to promote peace and stability in the region. He also conveyed best wishes for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei.

President Pezeshkian thanked the PM and the Field Marshal for Pakistan’s strong commitment to peace efforts and expressed confidence that relations between Iran and Pakistan would continue to strengthen in the coming days.
