Thousands of gastroenteritis cases reported in Lahore

LAHORE: Thousands of cases of gastroenteritis were reported in government hospitals in Lahore this month.

Lahore General Hospital had the highest number of reported cases, with 1769, according to hospital authorities.

Jinnah Hospital reported 1324 cases, Mayo Hospital reported 1134 cases, Services Hospital reported 987 cases, and Ganga Ram Hospital reported 879 cases.

Gastroenteritis, commonly referred to as infectious diarrhoea, is an inflammation affecting the gastrointestinal tract, encompassing the stomach and small intestine. It manifests through symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, and abdominal discomfort. Fever, fatigue, and dehydration are additional indicators. The condition usually resolves within a duration of less than two weeks.
