Will hand over govt to interim setup in August: PM Shehbaz


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while addressing the nation earlier tonight, said that the incumbent government will hand over the its responsibilities to a caretaker setup in August 2023, fulfilling its commitment made in April 2022.

The premier further said that his government, in a little over a year, has saved Pakistan’s economy from defaulting after a fresh agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). “We have removed all the financial landmines laid by the previous government,” he added.

“This was the journey of restoring human dignity, self-sufficiency, and freedom of media and speech.” said the PM while talking about his stint at the office.

He also made a reference to the rehabilitation work initiated by the government after last year’s devastating flood, claiming his government had supported around 33 million flood affectees.

The Prime Minister thanked friendly countries, the foreign ministry, and the army chief for their support in reviving the economy.

Shehbaz Sharif took oath as the country’s 23rd prime minister last year in April, after Imran Khan’s government was ousted in a no-confidence vote in the parliament.
