Jay-Z responds to SA lawsuit: “My only heartbreak is for my family”

NEW YORK: Shawn Corey Carter, better known by his stage name Jay-Z, responded to allegations that surfaced on Sunday, which claimed that he was involved in the sexual assault of a 13-year old.

Carter responded to a refiled lawsuit which added him as a defendant and alleged that Sean “Diddy” Combs and he raped a 13-year old girl at an after party following the MTV Video Music Awards. The suit was originally filed in October and alleged that the victim was drugged before being raped by celebrity A, a man, while Combs and Celebrity B, a woman watched. Carter was named as the previously anonymous male celebrity, an accusation he has vehemently denied.

“You’ve made a terrible error in judgement thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same. I’m not from your world. I’m a young man who made it out the project of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games.”

Carter claimed that the lawsuit was a “blackmail attempt” and accused Texas lawyer, Tony Buzbee, who has filed a myriad of suits against Sean Diddy Combs in recent months, extortion. He cited the fact that he was named in a civil lawsuit rather than a criminal one. “Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree?” asked Carter.

The 24-time Grammy award winning artist believes that Buzbee filed the suit in an attempt to force a settlement, knowing the severity of the allegations would result in public scrutiny.

Carter isn’t the first celebrity to be linked to Diddy. In October, hip hop artist Kanye West was sued by his former assistant, Lauren Pisciotta, in a suit that alleged she was drugged and raped by West at a studio session co-hosted with Diddy.

Diddy’s legal team called the refiling a “shameless publicity stunt,” that attempts to “extract payments from celebrities who fear having lies spread about them, just as lies have been spread about Mr Combs.”

Carter did not reference Diddy in his response.

Alongside his condemnation of Buzbee, Carter lamented the damage the allegations have done to his family. “My only heartbreak is for my family,” Carter said, adding that his wife and he will have to sit their children down and “explain the cruelty and greed of people.”
