ISLAMABAD/KARACHI: Mourners observed the 9th of Muharram with due solemnity and sanctity, commemorating the seventh-century martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Processions were held on Monday in cities and towns across the country as the federal and provincial governments deployed police, Rangers, and army personnel to ensure security, especially in sensitive areas.
Mobile networks were suspended in certain regions, and internet service was disrupted in sensitive zones to guarantee foolproof security. This comes in response to past attacks on processions.
Muharram processions were taken out in all cities including in Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Quetta. Sabeels were set up along the procession routes for the mourners.
