Are winter vacations extended in Punjab again?

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday announced the extension of winter vacations for nursery and prep students in Punjab until 19 January, 2024, citing the severe cold weather conditions.
This decision comes in the wake of 36 children in Punjab succumbing to pneumonia in the first 10 days of January
Earlier, there were rumors suggesting a widespread extension of winter vacations in the province until January 15 for all classes across Punjab due to extreme weather conditions. However, the latest update clarifies that the extension is specific to nursery and prep students, lasting until January 19.
However, there will be a ban on schools holding assemblies until January 31 in Punjab.
An official notification regarding the extension in winter holidays for nursery and prep students will be issued soon from Punjab government,.
Naqvi said that if a child is experiencing cough, fever, or throat complaints, it is advised to keep the child at home and not send them to school.
Naqvi dismissed rumors of extending winter holidays from grades 1 to 10 in Punjab until January 14. He added that as long as students are dressed warmly, there should be no issue.

Meanwhile, social media users have expressed criticism on various platforms regarding the decision of the Punjab government’s School Education Department to reopen schools and colleges on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
According to weather forecasters, the duration of winter this year in Lahore and other cities of province expected to be longer than last year.
