The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore, established in 1954, is the largest educational board in Pakistan. It oversees secondary and intermediate education for students in Lahore.

The BISE Lahore administers examinations for approximately 2 million students annually.

Prior to its formation, matriculation and intermediate exams were conducted by the University of the Punjab. The Punjab University Act (Amendment) Ordinance of 1954 led to the creation of the Board of Secondary Education, Punjab, which later became BISE Lahore.

To accommodate the increasing number of students, the board established additional boards in Multan, Sargodha, Rawalpindi, and Gujranwala by 1968.

In 1976, the board revised its structure through the Punjab Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act, with further amendments in 1984. Initially covering Punjab, Baluchistan, Azad Kashmir, and northern Pakistan, it now limits its jurisdiction to Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, and Nankana Sahib.

BISE Lahore also established examination centers in Kuwait and Nairobi to serve international candidates.
