Chief Justice of PHC orders ‘immediate recovery’ of abducted judge


PESHAWAR: The Chief Justice (CJ) of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) ordered the immediate “safe recovery” of Waziristan Sessions Judge Shakirullah Marwat, who was abducted on Saturday..

In response to the incident, the CJ of PHC and Justice Atiq Shah summoned concerned authorities, including the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the Inspector General (IG) of police, and the Additional Chief Secretary of the High Court.

In a meeting held in Peshawar, the CJ of PHC ordered “immediate” and “concrete steps” to be taken for the recovery of the abducted judge. The IG and the Additional Chief Secretary briefed the judges about the ongoing developments in the case. They stated the every possible resource was being utilised to safely recover the judge.

The Additional Chief Secretary stated that following the abduction reports, the concerned regional police officer, commissioner, and security agencies were immediately contacted. He further directed “immediate action” for the judge’s recovery and stated that he was personally monitoring the situation.

Earlier, reports emerged of unidentified men abducting Sessions Judge Shakirullah Marwat while he was traveling. The armed abductors left behind the judge’s security personnel and vehicle.

Meanwhile, KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur instructed the police chief to “prioritise” the “safe recovery” of the abducted judge and “deploy all available resources” for this purpose.

The chief minister condemned the abduction and assured the judge’s family of the government’s full support in recovering the judge.
