Gandapur restores electricity at DI Khan grid station as load-shedding deepens

Load-shedding

PESHAWAR: Electricity load-shedding has intensified in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), prompting Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to personally intervene by visiting a grid station in his hometown Dera Ismail Khan to restore power.

Gandapur announced a fixed load-shedding duration of 12 hours during his visit to the DI Khan grid station. “Now, there will be no load-shedding of more than 12 hours in any area across the province. Assembly members should visit grid stations in their constituencies and implement the load-shedding schedule,” he said.

Meanwhile, Fazal Elahi, a member of the Sunni Ittehad Council, forcefully restored electricity at the Rehman Baba grid station in Peshawar. Police have registered an FIR but did not name Elahi in the case.

PESCO officials stated that MPA Fazal Elahi restored power to 10 feeders with significant line losses, resulting in a financial loss of Rs2.64 million to PESCO. The officials noted that these feeders have been closed again due to high losses in Elahi’s constituency, leading to 16 hours of load-shedding on those feeders. In contrast, areas with no losses are not experiencing prolonged load-shedding, PESCO said.

Elahi’s actions highlight the ongoing tension over electricity supply in the province.
