ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that there will be two lunar eclipses and two solar eclipses in 2025.
Lunar eclipses occur when the Earth passes directly between the sun and the moon. This causes the Earth’s shadow to fall on the moon.

First lunar eclipse
The first lunar eclipse is scheduled for March 14, where it will be begin at 8:57 am. However, it will not be visible from Pakistan.
The celestial phenomenon can be observed anywhere on Earth during night-time. However, due to the timing of the particular eclipse, it will be hard to spot from Pakistan.
First solar eclipse
Following the first lunar eclipse, the first solar eclipse of 2025 will take place on March 29. The solar eclipse will also not be visible.
Solar eclipses occur when the moon moves between the Earth and the sun, blocking the latter’s light either partially or completely.
The type of solar eclipse can vary, depending on the alignment of the sun, moon and the Earth – it can be total, partial or annular.
The meteorological department did not provide specific details regarding the timings of the first solar eclipse.
It is advisable for observers to take safety measures when viewing solar eclipses, as looking directly at the sun can cause serious eye damage.
Second lunar eclipse
The second lunar eclipse of 2025 is set to occur on the night between September 7 and September 8. It will begin at 8:28 pm and end at 1:55 pm.
Unlike the first, the second lunar eclipse will be visible in Pakistan, as well as in other parts of Asia, Europe and Africa.
Lunar eclipses can appear as a reddish hue, often referred as the “blood moon” as well. This is due to the scattering of sunlight through the Earth’s atmosphere.

Second solar eclipse
The second solar eclipse of the year will take place on September 22. Unfortunately, it will also not be visible from Pakistan.
It is expected to begin at 11:30 pm and will conclude at 2:54 pm.
The specifics regarding whether the second solar eclipse will be total, partial or annual have not been disclosed for now.
