PM calls for tackling challenges in Pakistan’s education sector

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif calling for proactive measures to tackle the challenges in Pakistan’s education sector has stressed the need for strong coordination between the federal and provincial governments to enroll the 22.8 million out-of-school children.

Chairing a Federal Cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Tuesday, he urged the Education Minister to collaborate closely with provinces to promote education, terming it a vital national service. Highlighting that 22.8 million children in Pakistan remain out of school, with most being girls, he stressed the urgency of addressing this issue.

The Prime Minister referred to the recent International Conference on Girls’ Education in Islamabad, noting its meaningful discussions on advancing education for girls. He also recalled the government’s declaration of an education emergency a few months ago.

PM Shehbaz hailed the resumption of PIA flights to Europe as a significant achievement and expressed optimism about restarting flights to Britain soon, which will ease travel for Pakistani citizens.

He also announced the opening of a new Pak-Iran border crossing in Panjgur, aimed at boosting legal trade and curbing smuggling. He thanked Iran for its cooperation in this initiative.

He expressed satisfaction over the improved situation in Kurram, noting that food and medicine supplies were being delivered to the area. He urged all stakeholders to work collectively to maintain peace.

The Prime Minister highlighted ongoing operations against Fitna al-Khawarij, commending security forces for their efforts. He revealed that an intelligence-based operation in Balochistan led to the elimination of 27 terrorists.

Paying tribute to the sacrifices of security personnel, he vowed to eradicate Fitna al-Khawarij completely, assuring that peace will be restored nationwide, as it was in 2018 under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif.
