‘President Alvi could announce election date anytime’

ISLAMABAD: President Dr Arif Alvi on Monday had a follow-up meeting with the caretaker Law Minister Ahmed Irfan Aslam to discuss matters related to the upcoming general elections. Their first meeting took place the previous week.

Jang quoting sources said that the president could announce the date of elections any time soon.

The president’s legal team and attorney general have advised him against doing so as it could lead to a legal and political crisis. The law minister has conveyed to the President that the authority to declare the date of the elections rests with the Election Commission of Pakistan.
