Punjab govt to deploy army and Rangers for Muharram

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to deploy both army and Rangers personnel across sensitive districts to maintain peace and security during the first 10 days of Muharram.

A senior official of the Punjab cabinet said that the military personnel will assist the local administrations to uphold law and order during this significant period.

As part of the security measures, the provincial government has announced a ban on pillion riding on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, which falls on July 28 and July 29, respectively.

This measure is aimed at curbing any potential disturbances during the important days of observance.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has sternly warned against any form of violence or incitement during the month of Muharram.

Earlier, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee officially announced that the first day of Muharram will commence on July 20.
