New restrictions imposed in Punjab amid rising air pollution

LAHORE: The Environment Protection Department (EPD) has instructed relevant institutions in Punjab to take necessary steps in response to the rising air pollution.
As part of these measures, there will be a change in school timings in Lahore to safeguard the health of children and the elderly. Schools will now start no earlier than 8 AM, with the new timings effective from October 28, 2024 until January 31, 2025.

Additionally, children will be required to assemble indoors, and all outdoor activities have been suspended. A strict ban on fireworks in Lahore will remain in place until January 31, 2025.
Authorities have also directed a crackdown on vehicles emitting excessive smoke, including motorbikes, rickshaws, and buses.
Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb has appealed to citizens to ensure their vehicles are properly maintained to prevent further smog buildup.
