Second Khawarji terrorist attack on Lakhani check post foiled in one week

DERA GHAZI KHAN: Second attack in one week on Lakhani check post by Khawarji terrorists has been foiled by the police.

The check post, on the border of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was attacked at dawn. Punjab Police spokesperson said that 15 to 20 Khawarji terrorists suddenly attacked the border post at dawn. They came in small groups, and used rocket launchers and heavy weapons in the attack, the spokesperson said.

The terrorists were identified from a distance using thermal image cameras. Police personnel promptly retaliated by firing machine guns and mortars. Khawarji terrorists retreated due to the heavy retaliation, Punjab Police spokesperson said, adding that six days ago another attack by Khawarji terrorists on Lakhani check post was foiled.

Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Usman Anwar commended the officers who repelled the terrorist attack.

COAS VOWS TO BRING BANNU ATTACKERS TO JUSTICE

A few days ago, a terrorist attack was foiled in Bannu when at least 16 terrorists, including four suicide bombers, rammed their explosive-laden vehicles into the entrance of Bannu Cantonment.

A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, “Five soldiers were killed in the exchange of fire, while the attack left 13 civilians dead and 32 others injured. A mosque was also damaged”.

Army chief vows to bring attackers of Bannu Cantt to justice

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir visited Bannu and vowed to bring planners and facilitators of the attack to book soon. He was also briefed on the ongoing operation and the overall security situation in the region.
