SHC suspends travel ban on Jibran Nasir, Mansha Pasha

KARACHI: In a significant development, the Sindh High Court (SHC) has suspended the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) no-fly list restriction imposed on prominent social activist Jibran Nasir and his wife, Mansha Pasha.

The SHC’s move follows a plea submitted by lawyer and activist Jibran Nasir, contesting what he termed an “unlawful limitation” on his ability to travel.

The court directed the FIA to lift the travel ban on the activist and his wife.

The activist’s said that he was prevented from traveling to Dubai by the FIA last month.

Nasir in his petition had made the federal and Sindh governments, the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports, the Aviation Ministry’s secretary, and the Director General of the FIA, as respondents.

The petition asserted that the constitution safeguards the fundamental rights of the petitioner, and any transgression upon these rights without due legal process is deemed illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional.

The plea underscored that the right to travel abroad is a fundamental entitlement of every individual, fortified by Articles 4, 9, 14, 15, 18, and 25 of the Constitution. These articles, which encompass the pivotal aspects of personal liberty, due process, dignity, and professional freedom, render any prohibition on departing or entering the country tantamount to an unwarranted curtailment of personal rights.
