Toshakhana case: PTI chairman challenges IHC verdict in SC

Toshakhana-II case

ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister Thursday challenged Islamabad High Court (IHC) verdict in the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the Toshakhana (gift repository) case initiated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

The PTI chairman filed an appeal through his counsel advocate Khawaja Haris.

The plea stated that criminal proceedings in the Toshakhana is inadmissible.

A complaint cannot be registered after the expiry of the statutory period. The decision of the Islamabad High Court should be annulled, the petition stated.

The ongoing case emerged last year when the ECP accused the PTI chairman and his wife Bushra Bibi of submitting false statements of assets and liabilities for the years 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.

As per the reference, during his tenure as prime minister, the PTI chairman received gifts worth Rs142.2 million from the Toshakhana.
