Kakar takes oath as caretaker prime minister

ISLAMABAD: Anwaarul Haq Kakar took oath as the eighth caretaker Prime Minister (PM) at a ceremony held at President House on Monday.

President Arif Alvi administered the oath to Kakar, who was unanimously selected by outgoing prime minister Shehbaz Sharif and opposition leader Raja Riaz.

Senior government officials and dignitaries attended the ceremony, including former PM Shehbaz Sharif, services chiefs, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and others.

Who is Anwarulhaq Kakar

Anwarulhaq Kakar is an ethnic Pashtun politician from Balochistan who has previously served as Advisor to the Chief Minister Balochistan.

A founding member of Balochistan Awami Party, he was the spokesperson for the Government of Balochistan from 2015 till 2018 when he was elected as a senator on an independent seat.

Reportedly, Kakar has been actively working on image building of the Pakistani state in the troubled province.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Sociology from the University of Balochistan and has attended the National Security Workshop at the National Defence University, Islamabad.
