On OIC summit sidelines: Pakistan and Gambia cement relations with MoU signing


BANJUL: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Gambian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mamadou Tangara on the sidelines of the 15th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Islamic Summit in Banjul, Gambia on Friday.

During the meeting, the leader signed an MoU on “Bilateral Political Consultations” that aims to establish a platform for regular dialogue between Pakistan and Gambia’s foreign ministries.

The leaders stated that signing the MoU shows that both Pakistan and Gambia were “committed” to strengthening their bilateral relations, “based on religious affinities, mutual trust, and shared values”.

Dar stated he appreciated the enduring ties between Pakistan and Gambia. He also congratulated the Gambian government on successfully hosting the 15th OIC Islamic summit.

The discussions between Dar and the Gambian minister covered various aspects with a particular focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, agriculture, education, and tourism. The leaders stated that fostering dialogue and collaborating would help advance mutual interests of both countries.

In addition to bilateral matters, the two officials also discussed opportunities for cooperation in multilateral forums, including the United Nations and the OIC.

During the meeting, the two leaders “recognised” the importance of leveraging their strengths and resources to address common challenges and pursue shared objectives.
