Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao’s Olympic aspirations dashed

LAUSANNE: Former Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao’s hopes of returning to the Olympic stage were dashed after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided not to revise age limits, preventing the 45-year-old from competing in the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics in France.
Despite Pacquiao’s illustrious career and global acclaim, the IOC opted against altering regulations that restrict boxers over the age of 40 from participating in the Olympics.

This decision effectively closes the door on Pacquiao’s dream of representing his country once again on the world’s biggest sporting platform.
Renowned as one of the greatest boxers of all time, Pacquiao boasts the record of being the sport’s only eight-division world champion.
Throughout his illustrious career, he clinched an impressive twelve world titles across five different weight classes.
Pacquiao retired from professional boxing in 2021 following a memorable career that spanned decades. His final bout was against Yordenis Ugas where he lost against the Cuban boxer.
