WEB DESK: Real Sociedad have unveiled a strategic plan to retain their star midfielder, Martin Zubimendi, despite significant interest from Premier League heavyweights Liverpool.
The Times reports that the Spanish club is demanding that Liverpool pay the full £51 million ($65 million) release clause in a single payment if they are to secure Zubimendi’s services.
Additionally, Sociedad has launched a concerted “charm offensive” in an attempt to persuade the 25-year-old to remain with the team.
Zubimendi, a lifelong supporter of Sociedad, has previously turned down overtures from major clubs such as Barcelona and Arsenal, as well as approaches from Liverpool.
The prevailing sentiment in Spain is one of optimism that he will choose to stay with the club where he began his career and where he has settled comfortably after a successful Euro 2024 campaign.
During the tournament, Zubimendi was a key player for Spain, featuring in four of the team’s seven matches, including a role as a second-half substitute in the final against England.
Despite the strong interest from Liverpool, previous reports have suggested that Zubimendi is open to considering their offer. The allure of Premier League and Champions League football presents a challenging decision for the talented midfielder.
