‘Time Management Issues’: No Opening Ceremony for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

AHMEDABAD: Cricket fans worldwide were brimming with anticipation for a dazzling opening ceremony to kick off the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, especially given that this marks the first time India is hosting the tournament solo. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) started it off unceremoniously and without the traditional inaugural spectacle.

Initial reports had suggested a glamorous opening ceremony was to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on October 4, featuring a star-studded lineup including legendary singer Asha Bhosle, Bollywood icon Ranveer Singh, and other prominent artists. However like the mood of the PM’s mood with Canada, the stadium in his name could not see the happy activity.

According to The Times of India the opening ceremony was cancelled due to time management issues, unlike the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), which featured a grand opening in the same city. “There was never an opening ceremony planned for the World Cup. In the case of the IPL, you can have a short opening ceremony, as the match starts in the evening. Here, the match starts in the afternoon,” their source says.

Despite the absence of the anticipated ceremony, the BCCI hosted the obligatory captains’ meet, where skippers of all ten participating nations engaged in an interactive press conference.
