Apple forecasts two-thirds of iPhone 16 sales will be Pro models

iPhone 16 Pro models

WEB DESK: Apple’s recent component orders indicate that the tech giant anticipates two-thirds of iPhone 16 sales to be from the two Pro models, according to a new report from the supply chain.

This prediction is supported by the decision to extend the periscope lens, which was exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro model as well. The orders for this specific component offer insight into Apple’s sales expectations.

Typically, Apple spreads its component orders across multiple suppliers to mitigate risk and strengthen its bargaining power. However, in this instance, The Elec reports that LG Innotech will be the sole supplier of the periscope lens module, known as the folded zoom, for the iPhone 16 series.

LG Innotech is set to exclusively supply the initial volume of folded zoom lenses for the iPhone 16 series, scheduled for release in the latter half of this year. Apple has placed orders sufficient to cover 70 per cent of the anticipated demand for the iPhone 16 lineup, aligning with other indicators from the supply chain.

Industry estimates suggest that Apple’s production plan for the four models in the iPhone 16 series will reach 90.1 million units by the end of this year.

Of these, 27 per cent (24.5 million units) will be standard models, while the Pro and Pro Max models will account for 30 per cent (26.6 million units) and 37 per cent (33.2 million units), respectively. This distribution underscores Apple’s expectation that 67 per cent of sales will come from the two Pro models.

To ensure reliability, Apple is initially limiting production to LG Innotech. However, the company is expected to bring on a second supplier, either Cowell or Foxconn, once they can meet Apple’s stringent quality and yield requirements.
