RAWALPINDI: Shopkeepers importing the latest Apple iPhone 16 series are demanding hefty fees for PTA approval, which is mandatory for buyers intending to use SIM cards in the flagship devices.
According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), users can use SIM services on an unregistered phone in Pakistan for only 60 days. After this period, users must pay the PTA tax to continue using mobile data and making calls.
Images circulating on social media reveal high PTA approval charges for the iPhone 16 models.
According to rates provided by an Apple iPhone dealer and confirmed by sources in the local smartphone market, Singapore Plaza in Rawalpindi, the following fees are being asked by sellers for PTA approval:
iPhone 16 (base model): Rs107,325 for PTA approval using a passport, and Rs130,708 with a CNIC
iPhone 16 Plus: Rs113,075 using a passport, and Rs137,033 with a CNIC
iPhone 16 Pro: Rs168,789 using a passport, and Rs193,884 with a CNIC
iPhone 16 Pro Max: Rs182,710 using a passport, and Rs213,631 with a CNIC
While these rates may not be officially set by PTA, they reflect the charges most shopkeepers are currently demanding from buyers for PTA approval of the iPhone 16 models.
