iPhone 17 Pro leak hints at 8x zoom, extra control button

iPhone 17 Pro camera specs leaked

CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA: Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro may include several new camera features, according to a source familiar with an ad reportedly in production for the device.

The commercial is said to be created by a film studio that lists Apple among its clients. However, none of these details have been confirmed independently.

The tipster shared three key features that have not appeared in earlier leaks.

First, the iPhone 17 Pro may have a new Telephoto lens with up to 8× optical zoom. That’s a step up from the 5× zoom on the iPhone 16 Pro. The lens could also support continuous zoom, allowing smoother changes between focal lengths.

Second, Apple is said to be working on a new pro camera app for photos and video. This app may compete with options like Halide, Filmic Pro, and Kino. It is not yet clear if the app will be exclusive to the Pro models. The source added that Apple might instead upgrade its current Final Cut Camera app.

Third, the new iPhone may get an extra button on the top edge of the device for camera controls. This would add to the button found on the bottom-right edge of the iPhone 16 models.

The source also claimed the iPhone 17 Pro may come in a copper-like colour and feature a centred Apple logo on the back.

Apple is expected to redesign the rear camera system this year. Reports suggest the iPhone 17 Pro could have three 48-megapixel cameras. That would align with Apple’s goal to boost mobile photo and video tools.

Earlier, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple would focus more on video this year. The company reportedly wants vloggers and creators to replace standalone cameras with the iPhone. Gurman said Apple will highlight these video features more than ever when the new iPhones launch in September.

In a separate report, Jon Prosser claimed the Camera app may allow users to record video using the front and rear cameras at the same time.

Still, these claims come from an anonymous source with no proven record. Until other sources confirm the details, they should be treated with caution.
