10,000 applications for e-bikes were received from girls: Marriyum Aurangzeb

LAHORE: Among new initiatives in Punjab’s provincial budget aimed at fostering sustainable development and youth empowerment are e-bikes.
Provincial Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb and Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman announced these new initiaitves on Friday, highlighting a focus on green transportation, technological advancement, and infrastructure development.

Marriyum Aurangzeb revealed that the first phase of a major e-bike project has commenced, with 20,000 electric bikes being introduced for the youth. She said that 10,000 applications have already been received from girls, indicating strong interest and participation from young women. “Punjab is being led towards environmentally friendly transportation,” Aurangzeb said.
In addition to promoting green transport, the Global IT Certification Program has been launched for the first time, aiming to equip the youth with essential technological skills. Furthermore, the Punjab Dastak programme will be expanded to include 77 services, enhancing accessibility and efficiency for citizens.
Infrastructure development is also a priority, with a road restoration programme initiated across Punjab, Aurangzeb said. A significant milestone will be achieved with the completion of the Safe City programme throughout the entire district of Punjab by March next year, enhancing security and public safety.
Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman provided details on the province’s historic budget, which totals an unprecedented Rs 5,646 billion. “More than fifty new initiatives are being worked on in Punjab,” he announced, reflecting the government’s proactive approach to development.
Rs 842 billion have been allocated for development, surpassing last year’s budget of Rs 655 billion. Highlighting fiscal responsibility, Rs 375 billion have been set aside for the repayment of the wheat loan, ensuring financial stability.

For the first time, Punjab is poised to generate tax revenue exceeding Rs 1,000 billion, the provincial finance minister said. The Punjab Revenue Authority, the main tax collection agency, has projected Rs 29 billion in property tax revenue.
“This budget is a surplus budget, and its usage will be maximised,” Shuja-ur-Rehman said.
