Early morning thunderstorm brings the mercury down in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Bringing respite from the rising temperature, residents of Islamabad woke up to a dramatic change in weather as a sudden thunderstorm accompanied by hail struck the city in the early hours of the morning.

The rain-wind/thunderstorm of moderate to high intensity started around 7:30 am in the capital city, with hailstorms at a few places, and continued with gaps.

The day temperatures dropped from two to three degrees Celsius after the rain.

PDMA warns of rise in daytime temperatures

The rain occurred due to a westerly wave affecting the upper parts of the country which is persisting as per the synoptic situation revealed by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) earlier.

Rain-dust storm/thunderstorm is expected in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Qilla Saifullah, Kohlu and Mastung on May 10 (evening/night) and May 11. Dust storms/thunderstorm is also expected in Kharan, Chagi and Panjgur during the period.

Rain and windstorm and thunderstorm is expected at isolated places in north Balochistan, KhyberPakhtunkhwa, upper Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

TEMPERATURES OF MAJOR CITIES RECORDED THIS MORNING:

Islamabad twenty-four degree centigrade, Lahore and Peshawar twenty-nine, Karachi twenty-eight, Gilgit fifteen, Quetta twenty-two Muzaffarabad twenty  and Murree eighteen degree centigrade.
