PESHAWAR: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P), (the PTI faction led by former chief minister Pervez Khattak), once regarded as the dominant force in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa politics, has suffered a resounding setback in the recent elections.

Unofficial results indicate that not a single candidate from the party that was dubbed as ‘King’s Party’ PTI-P camp has secured victory in the polls.

The electoral landscape in the province has witnessed a seismic shift, with not only PTI-P but also several key figures from other prominent parties such as the Awami National Party (ANP), Qaumi Watan Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Jamaat-e-Islami tasting defeat in both national and provincial assembly contests.

Remarkably, independent candidates supported by the broader PTI umbrella have emerged triumphant across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, clinching significant victories in both the National and Provincial Assemblies.

Among the notable casualties of this electoral upheaval are seasoned politicians including PTI-P Chairman Pervez Khattak, and Vice Chairman Mehmood Khan. Other notable defeats include ANP Central Leader Amir Haider Hoti, Provincial President Aimal Wali Khan, Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, and Provincial President of PML-N Amir Muqam. Even heavyweight figures like Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman and Mian Nawaz Sharif have faced defeat in their respective constituencies.

Despite these setbacks, PTI’s central leadership, including Chairman Barrister Gohar, General Secretary Umar Ayub Khan, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, former Provincial Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ghani, and several former MNAs and MPs, have managed to secure victory in their electoral battles.
